The US Green Building Council (USGBC) recognizes the Sustainable Building Advisor Program as a 400-level course in sustainability.
While many alternatives exist for sustainability training in the areas of real estate, general contracting, architecture, and others, our approach is to offer a course that advances students towards expertise in sustainability that will inform their professional practice.
Sustainability cannot be simplified to a checklist nor summed up in best practices papers. Rather, it is an interdisciplinary approach achieving low cost, high productivity built environments. It is a way of doing things that seeks to create present and future value. It is about the system of the world, and the recognition that intention, design, and implementation each have an impact on how that system will evolve.
We are inspired by the changes we see in the world around us and by the people, institutions and organizations that are increasing the level of sophistication at which society functions.
Individuals are at the heart of all decisions about technology, industry, and commerce, and this course is about how to approach decision making to create lasting benefit for the people within our respective spheres of influence.
